Hedda Gabler

by Henrik Ibsen, translation by Richard Eyre
Directed by Hedda Bird

Passionate and heartless, fire and ice, bully and victim, craving a chance to be herself, but not knowing who she could be… Hedda Gabler is one of the great heroines of the theatre. She is both eaten up with envy and wild with unfulfilled desire. But this is 1891, and a woman has little control over her life, and is always at the mercy of powerful, manipulative men. As her desperate search for love, beauty and the purpose of life veers out of control, Hedda is faced with a terrible choice.

Widely regarded as one of the great plays of World Theatre, so thrilling is it for audiences and actors alike that there have been four major productions in the West End in the last ten years alone. As it is twenty years since Wokingham Theatre last saw Hedda Gabler, it is high time for our own revival.
