Happy Now?

by Lucinda Coxon
Directed by Chris Hillebrandt

First performed in 2008, Happy Now? is a deliciously sharp and well observed contemporary black comedy, dealing with the (very middle class!) frustrations of modern life.

We follow the story of Kitty, a successful working mother of two children. On the surface she seems to have it all but a chance encounter at a conference hotel plays on her mind as she struggles to balance her personal freedom with family life, fidelity and a testing job.

This very funny and painfully truthful take on modern life has plenty of home truths many of us will relate to, especially anyone who has children or grandchildren (at times the couples almost seem to be in competition as to who is the most tired and sleep deprived!). Kitty, who seems to have it all has reached a point in her life where she is questioning whether she is truly happy and what she really wants out of life with her husband, her friends, her irritating mother and maybe the odd workplace dalliance.
